Things you need to know about Mac’s…
You may have heard that Mac’s never get viruses, which is mostly true. The market is still about 88% Pc to about 8% Mac based, so hackers and virus programmers target Pc’s more often than Mac’s. This still does not mean that a Mac user will never get a virus, it is just less likely; however, Mac’s and Pc’s are more similar than you might think. On the outside they will look different. On the virtual level, the operating system (the OS) is different than a Pc. IT will process things differently and look different for a unique feel. However, on the physical level inside and for components, Mac’s and Pc’s are the same. There is a motherboard, some RAM, a keyboard and mouse, some sort of CD or floppy drive and USB ports, and a hard drive. If you have an iMac or laptop, the monitor is also there, someway to view what the Pc or Mac is doing. The components in Mac’s wear out just like Pc components do, and that’s where most of the problems will come from.
Even though repairs will cost you about the same depending on what needs to be done, you will pay for the MAC experience and name when you buy the computer. Here is what you will need to bring or have available when you get your MAC repaired.
1) The Mac, of course, and power adapters.
2) Keyboard and mouse.
3) If you plugged something in that might have caused the problem (ipod, USB, ect)
4) And any CDs/DVDs that came with the MAC.
When a Pc is repaired, the software is easy to find and/or download. As long as the correct OS disk is accessible, the computer is able to be repaired.
When a MAC is repaired, the software for each computer is different. The CD that Apple gives the customer is made specifically for the MAC. If you have lost the software that came with your MAC, contact Apple for a replacement.
Also, even though the components may be the same, MAC hardware is system specific. Where Pc repair may take less than a day because the parts are available, a MAC, like a laptop, could take up to a week if parts are available and need to be ordered, if not longer. The hardware has to be compatible with the MAC in order for it to work correctly.
